My dear Sir

Thanks for your paper it is extremely interesting and will be read next meeting

I will take care that you see the proofs of your papers for the reprint of Vol. III

The new part of the Transactions <1> Vol IV. p.2. is all ready for press and I hope to get it out next month promptly but Mr Mabey has delayed me hitherto

Your Account of Delitzschs <2> book was read last meeting. There is some chance of Mr Sayce <3> editing it in English with addition for the Archaic Classics

Smith <4> returns at the end of this month unsuccessful in his attempt to obtain a firman. He has however made a few purchases

When can you send me some further texts for Records of the Past? <5> I shall try and bring out two volumes a time as before

Y afly

W.R. Cooper

H Fox Talbot. Esq. F.R.S.

Notes:

1. Transactions of the Society of Biblical Archaeology (London).

2. Prof Conrad Gerhard Friederich Delitzsch (1850–1922), German biblical scholar.

3. Archibald Henry Sayce (1845–1933), Egyptologist & Orientalist. He was probably making additions for the students’ use in the classes.

4. George Smith (1840–1876), Assyriologist. He was eventually successful in obtaining the firman, probably the news were delayed.

5. Records of the Past being English Translations of the Assyrian and Egyptian Monuments (London: Samuel Bagster & Sons).
