Lacock

March 4th 1854

My Dear Constance

I have made acquaintance with Mr Blomfield <1> – He is a little man and very young looking – His Sister is residing with him in the vicarage. He likes the first look of the place very much, but the great beauty of the weather no doubt embellishes the appearance of everything. Poor old Mrs Marchant <2> died yesterday, and a few weeks ago we lost one of the most respected inhabitants of the village Thos Moore <3> the sadler –

On Monday I propose returning to Town, and after staying there a day, I mean to return to Keswick <4>, or at any rate to send Goodwin.

It is time I think to form some plan about your coming to Town in the Spring with Ela and Rosamond <5>, or with all the family if you prefer doing so – when I see you I should like to know what you wish about it.

Your affte

Henry

Notes:

1. Probably Arthur Blomfield (b. 1827), curate of Lacock.

2. See Doc. No: 02983.

3. Probably Thomas Moore (possibly d. 1854), member of the Lacock Parish Vestry.

4. Keswick, Cumberland.

5. Ela Theresa Talbot (1835–1893), WHFT’s 1st daughter and Rosamond Constance ‘Monie’ Talbot (1837–1906), artist & WHFT’s 2nd daughter.
