Dear Sir
The first number of the "Photographic News" will appear on the 10th of Septr and I do hope you will be enabled to lend me a plate in time for the first number as the arrangements are made in the expectation of its being so illustrated. If the specimen be not quite perfect, it will not look inferiour [sic] to the public, who have never seen better specimens and if in a future number the improved specimens were shown the superiority and progress that had been made would be more evident.
Perhaps the enclosed pictures <1>may interest you - They are rather curious in two ways. First as being very rapidly taken the measured time having between the 1/80th and 1/120th part of a second: - and secondly on account of the printing process: being printed on a compound of Uranium and fixed without the employment of hyposulphite of Soda or any similar substance. I believe they will prove to be quite permanent.
Very truly yours
William Crookes
