My dear Papa

I have only time for a very short letter, but thought you would like to hear of our safe arrival and prosperous though wet journey. today [sic] has not improved much, but there were signs of clearing at Sunset, so we are in hopes of a fine day tomorrow –

We have been most hospitably received and have made acquaintance already with the outlying members of the family – Bibbys McKinroys and Robertsons – and Linny has been taken charge of at the Grange by Mrs Robertson that he may be safe from cats –

Good bye dear Papa

In haste Yr affecte daughter
Ela
