Sunday ev.g.<1>
Dear Sir
As I return to London tomorrow morning I am unable to accept your friend Mr Townsend’s very obliging invitation, & I request you will have the goodness to make my excuses known to him.
Should you wish to give away any of your Calotype specimens to your friends here, I shall be happy to send you more specimens to supply their place whenever you want them.
Yours very truly
H. F. Talbot
P.S, Is your address “post office Leamington, Warwicksh. ? I hope you will (being so near) come to spend a few days at Lacock Abbey and make some Calotypes with me.
Sir D. Brewster
Notes:
1. Brewster responded the same day - see Doc. No: 04653. Brewster was in Manchester for the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science by 10 July (Doc. No: 04541). He planned to arrive at Lacock the morning of 15 July (Doc. No: 04652) and had departed from there before 20 July (Doc. No: 04551). Several photographs are positively dated to the period of this stay, including some of Brewster himself.
