My dear Sir,

As I hear you are going to Paris, I hasten to enclose a note of introduction to M Bayard <1> with whose Photographs you will be much charmed; I hope he has perhaps ere this published his method.

I also send a little treatise from C. Chevalier, <2> to whom I strongly recommend you as the best maker of Camera lenses that I have found at Paris, you will find his whole apparatus excellent.

It is long since I have seen any of your pictures, but have heard that you have made advances in rapidity during the last two years; I hope to see some soon as I hear Lady M. Cole <3> has just arrived from your part of the world.

yours very faithfully

Calvert R Jones.

Notes:

1. Hippolyte Bayard (1801–1887), French photographic inventor; Bayard and Jones had been photographing together during Jones’ stay in Paris in 1841.

2. Charles Chevalier (1804–1859), optician, Paris.

3. Lady Mary Lucy Cole, née Strangways, first m. Talbot (1776–1855), WHFT’s aunt.
