Lacock Abbey
Sunday Oct 12.
My dear Henry
I have received both your letters <1> & think you very good to write two days following. I am very sorry for Lady Marys <2> anxieties did she go to London to see the last of the Talbots? <3> I am sorry she should ever pass us without stopping & think the journey must have been a great deal too long for her. Will you not ask her to rest herself at Lacock in her way back? I am glad you were going to have such a comfortable dinner yesterday but I thought Mr & Mrs C Jones <4> were gone home. I can easily believe she would express her sense of civilities received here in strong language Did you not remark that such was her customary style! however I am very glad she was pleased I do long to see the Mount Edgcumbe <5> views particularly the battery scene. Last week I wrote to Lady Mary about a Cook who had lived with her but I dare say she had left home before my letter arrived I heard an excellent account of little Ernestine <6> today.
Your affte
Constance.
