My dear Sir,

Your letter followed me here, where we have been called by the illness of an Aunt of Mrs Calvert Jones.

Many thanks for your parcel; the over duplicates I will keep to hand over to the Swansea agent in case Mr Cowderoy <1> establishes one I have not yet recieved [sic] it nor shall I till my return when I will send another detachment of Maltese and Roman views: I am much pleased with several copies of the second series <2> which I sent: it is however clearly necessary to do all with a view to waxing.

Mr Cowderoy lately sent me some very bad Iodised paper, <3> Mr Harrison <4> has sent me some better, but still not very good, I am sorry there is such difficulty in procuring the material good.

I brought my little ¼ Camera here and have done some views, which pleased a Tradesman so much, that he is desirous of being an Agent, I have referred him to Mr Cowderoy.

I am thinking of a little tour to Worcestershire and Yorkshire; the latter is so rich in some subjects, and I shd be glad to go out of the way to take some of them if I thought the percentage wd repay but cannot afford to do so unless I hear from you that it would.

I hope your projected tour will be successful, and remain

Yours very truly
Calvert R. Jones.

Wd you be kind enough to send the enclosed to Mr Harrison.<5>

Notes:

1. Benjamin Cowderoy (1812–1904), land agent in Reading; business manager for WHFT; later a politician in Australia.

2. See Doc. No: 05685.

3. Paper pre-prepared for making calotype negatives - it was then sensitised in the field just before use.

4. Alfred Edwin Harrison, bookkeeper for Henneman.

5. Enclosure not located.
