Cher Monsieur Talbot:

Dear Mr Talbot

I must thank you for your kind letter in response to mine – We have carried out your commissions, as far as it has been possible.

I thought that you might like to read an article in the Athanæum on a new invention of Mr Claudet which he calls Stereomonoscope: You will see it in the Royal Society article. April 15 –

We spent almost three hours this morning at Mr Ivan Szabo’s: he made two portraits (or rather four) of Rosamond and Tilly which he is very happy with; he would have liked to have done Matilde in another costume, a third time, but there was not enough time. The one of Ela is as good a likeness as one could get; Charles did not come out quite as well, nevertheless it is a very good portrait. Today the weather is like June – we are in the horrors of packing which do not prevent the little girls from going to the ball this evening, the last one for them here.

Farewell, Dear Mr Talbot, I hope you are enjoying this good weather and that it shall accompany us to Cumberland,

Your most affectionate

Amélina P

1. Iván Szabó (1822–1858), a Hungarian photographer, learned his craft in St Andrews before setting up his studio in Edinburgh in 1857. He was considered one of the premier portrait photographers in Scotland, and made photographs of all the Talbot family. See also Doc. No: 07585.
