Monsieur,

Sir,

I have received the engravings done by your process, which you had the kindness to send, and for which I give my thanks. I will examine them carefully. At first sight, I think that you have made great strides in this direction.

I will be moved to see how the portraits which I sent you turn out with your engraving, because if there was a way to make them perfect with a little retouching, it would be of great importance for the sale of cartes de visite.

It is unfortunate that I did not understand that you needed the positives. I think that it would be better to send them back to me at once, & I will make the positives for you myself. They will be the same size and will not lose any of the clarity of the originals.

I even think that we will lose less time in readying things for you to begin.

Please accept, Sir, my sincere regards.
Claudet

P.S
Tomorrow, I am going to send the specimens which I intend to have included in the coming Exhibition to the Scottish Photographic Society. You will see the portrait of Sir David Brewster there, of which you have a copy at Lacock Abbey, if it has not been sent to you.

1. WHFT had continued to improve his 1858 process of photoglyphic engraving.
