My dear Sir,

When I saw recently & almost simultaneously of a paper on spectrum analysis by you before the R. Soc. Edin.,<1> & also a paper on an Assyrian eclipse before the Society of Biblical Archæology in London,–<2> I was lost in wonder as to where you might be in bodily presence; but having had a glimpse of you yesterday at the R. Society’s rooms here, & hailing with delight your return to vivify these parts with intellectual light, I beg to send for your kind acceptance herewith two little brochures which have been published since you were last here,
