Lacock Wednesday

My dear Constance
The Abbey is rather cold just now, but nothing like what it is some winters. There was a hoar frost this morning, but it disappeared before noon. I received Monie’s very amusing letter, but have not had time to write. Please to forward Chiver’s parcel per Carrier as I wish to see how he binds – and send at same time a pound of best gelatine, such as is used for making jellies – I had some you gave me, but it is nearly used up in my experiments. Mr West Awdry says his daughter is still at the Mauritius, at least he has not heard of their departure though the ship was to have been refitted in 6 weeks – He says the iron works at Seend are bankrupt once more, and for a very large sum indeed, approaching half a million sterling. He thinks the creditors will take possession of the property and continue the manufacture of iron notwithstanding this discouragement.
Please send me by the Carrier some twists for breakfast, as we are rather unprovided with eatables – I expect Charles home to dinner –
It is rather amusing that the Claimant is expected to be sent to prison for abusing the judges in a public speech. Mr Awdry thinks he wishes to be considered a martyr
Adieu
Your affectionate
Henry
I took some of the Stilton for luncheon, it is very good.
