My dear Mrs Talbot

Mr Sandford concurs with me in repudiating the idea of your seeking another abode – Under present circumstance he can arrange to allow you to remain from April 29th to May 27th – (four weeks) I fix the date by reference to the Almanac, so as to prevent our entering upon another week of these lodgings. I hope that additional stay in Eding may see your daughter’s health much improved –

Very sincerely &c

22d April 1859

Dear Mrs Talbot

If my house had been let to your family at the usual rate of £63 a month during the winter – a rent which I might have had within a week after I had accepted Dr Moir’s offer, I should certainly have lowered the rent for the month of May; but as the rent has been so much less than what I received in 1857 – 5s, I cannot lower the value of my property by reducing it. –

I beg a decided answer as soon as you can, for we may be turned out of these lodgings unless we secure them – I remain &c

Good Friday

My dear Henry

Not wishing to part with the originals – I send you copies of Mrs Sandford’s note in consequence of reply to my application to her yesterday, (after consultation with her husband) – Also of Mr Sandford’s reply to a note which I sent in this morning. I was obliged to write for the terms, as he did not volunteer a statement in the first instance, and to represent to him that the arrangement could not be considered as concluded, until approved by you – and that I should write to you today. I have shown the 2d note to Dr Moir who thought it a fair statement of the case – therefore I trust that you will approve – in consideration of the great comfort there will be in remaining on in the same house. I don’t know if this change of place will make any difference about your coming again to Edinburgh immediately – It will enable you to consult your own convenience entirely - but I shall hope for your answer in writing by the earliest post: which I ought to receive on Monday or Tuesday. – Thanks for yr letter recd this morning. –

Your affecte

Constance–
