My dear Henry

I send you a small parcel left here two or three days ago by Uncle William, <1> with orders to send it to you – Though why he could not do so himself I am at a loss to discover. However I take the opportunity of putting in a little packet for Amandier <2> – as the two together will probably not be more expensive than one. – Though it is a long time ago, I have never yet forgiven you for leaving London as you did, sans tambour ni trompettes, <3> without so much as having the grace to ask if I had nothing to send – or even wishing good bye – Ernestine <4> has been the loser by this – as I have never given her your Book of Giants, <5> tho’ I highly approve & think it charming because I wished you to give it yourself – so there it lies in my box, till you give me a new signé de vie. <6> – We are in a very interesting crisis – yet everyone takes it very quietly, Ld Stanley <7> finally gave up his attempt at making a Govt yesterday – but no one knows anything farther – except that I believe Sir J. Graham <8> was with the Queen <9> this morning. There has been a meeting of the Ministers at Lansdowne He <10>

They say that when d’Israeli <11> passed before the Queen at the Levée, H. M. drew up – I do not know what reception he cd hope for, after such an impertinent accusation!

Shall I write again if I hear anything interesting?

Milord <12> has suffered much the last week from Rheumatism, but is better – Charlie <13> gets on well I think –

Yr affte Sister
Caroline
