Observatory Cambridge
1835 Sep 10
Sir
I beg to acknowledge your letter of Sep 1 <1> with the account of an observation of the comet <2> on Aug 27: The only observation of that day which has yet reached me.
The comet has been observed here once with the small telescope (3¾ inch) of the equatorial, but I have not yet had time to attend sufficiently to the reductions.
I will endeavour to make arrangements for observing the star which you mention when it is visible. I need not point out that it passes the meridian in daylight at present, and that a considerable time must [illegible deletion] elapse before it will pass at a convenient hour.
I am Sir Your obedient servant
