Extract of a letter received from Messrs James & Brock of Hamburg – dated 7th November 1826.

Messrs Bingham Richards & Co present their compliments to Mr Talbot – they hope the above extract from Messrs James & Brock’s letter will be sufficiently satisfactory to induce him to pay the 13s/4d in question, as Messrs BR&Co can assure Mr Talbot that Mess James & Brock are very respectable.

Translation:

Extract of a letter received from Messrs James & Brock of Hamburg – dated 7th November 1826.

In reply to your favour of the 6 of last month, we have to assure you that Mr W.H.F Talbot, for whom we had sent you a small parcel of Mr J. V. Utzscheider in Munich, is mistaken in maintaining that the Postage for the aforementioned parcel from Munich to your city cannot exceed a couple of Pence. You will readily believe this when you know that a single letter from Munich or <Augsburg?> to your city does not cost less than 15 ß, let us say fifteen Shillings from here; the parcel for Mr Talbot cost 3 Flourins 7ß to post and 2 Flourins 13ß to frank. This makes a good <illegible> Fl 6 4 for which he must reimburse you without us being able to change anything

Messrs Bingham Richard and Co present their compliments to Mr Talbot – they hope the above extract from Messrs James and Brock’s letter will be sufficiently satisfactory to induce him to pay the 13s/4d in question, as Messrs BR & Co can assure Mr Talbot that Messrs James and Brock are very respectable.
