My Dear Sir

Dr Delitzsch <1> has sent me a copy of his book Assyrische Studien <2>

As he gives no address but “London”, and as Continental Scholars almost always visit the Museum, I must ask of your kindness to hand the enclosed letter to him. But if he is gone, or not seen at the Museum, please to return it.

I have printed Mr Smith’s <3> new glossaries, which are a really valuable addition to Assyrian literature – They give the explanation of about 150 signs, many of which were quite unknown, and what is very curious, they give perfect copies of some of Layard’s old syllabaries which were in a most fractured and illegible condition, & of no use: now they supply valuable information. I hope to be in Town about Lord Mayors day – and shall wish to look at the glossaries again, in order to verify the printed copies.

I was surprised to hear that a second edition of Records of the Past <4> was called for so soon, and by Bagster’s <5> desire I have forwarded to him some corrections of my papers.

I remain Dr Sir
Very Truly Yours

H. F. Talbot

Dr Birch
