Notes:

1. George Smith (1840–1876), Assyriologist. This probably refers to his excavations at Kuyunjik in search of the missing fragment of the Deluge tablet. The first visit was in 1873, the second in 1874 and the third visit in 1876 (when he died of dysentery). It is possible that WHFT’s note was written during the Summer of 1876.
