1. Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785–1865), Prof & botanist.

2. The portrait, by Spiridione Gambardella, was “presented by subscription Nov. 7 1843” and still hangs in the Linnean Society Meeting Room.

3. Probably Edward Forster (1765–1849), the younger, botanist.

4. Edward Stanley (1779–1849), Bishop of Norwich (1837–1849).

5. Robert Brown (1773–1858), botanist & librarian to the Linnean Society.

6. Probably Charles Stokes (1783–1853), collector and geologist.

7. William Borrer (1781–1862), botanist.

8. Probably George Loddiges (1784–1846), botanical artist.

9. Joshua Milne (1776–1851), actuary to the Sun Life Assurance Society.

10. Although this appears to be written as ‘Sir J. …’, it is probably Sir Isaac Lyon Goldsmid (1778–1859), philanthropist.

11. Thomas Bell (1792–1880), dental surgeon; president of the Linnean Society (1853–1861).

12. Thomas Bell Salter, FLS.

13. Richard Taylor (1781–1858), publisher & naturalist.

14. Francis Boott (1792–1863), physician; secretary to the Linnean Society (1832–1839), and treasurer (1856–1861).
