Gayton, Northampton, 29 April, 1839.

My dear friend,

Accept my best thanks for your very learned & scholarlike treatise on the Antiquity of the Book of Genesis, which I read consecutively from the moment that I received it with delight and wonder. – delight at the good taste and clearness with which your most ingenious conjectures are laid down, and wonder at the fulness of omnigenous learning with which they are supported. When I couple with these Theological & archæological researches your recent discoveries in philosophy as applied to the Art of painting, my delight and wonder are redoubled: And I rejoice with no small triumph in the recollection, that you are "an Old Harrovian" and my own dear <illeg> pupil.

I hope in little more than a fortnight to have the opportunity of paying my respects to you for a few minutes in London. Meanwhile present my best compliments to your Lady & believe me ever My dear Talbot,

Most affectly & faithfully yours

Geo Butler
