With refrce t yr lr recd this morng I wd recall to yr recolln what I sd in a former lr some mths ago, ^viz. that altho’ I have no present intentn of so doing, ^yet I wish to retain a full power of selling the property at Nethermore at any future time, subject only to your lease of 21 yrs and I shd not be free and unfettered in this respect if I were under any engagemt as to leasing the rest of ye property – But of course I can say this much however that if all goes on prospsly it wd be the most natrl thing in ye world that I shd wish to lease other portions with the Wiltshire iron trade & there shd be is a demand for further iron grounds, I shd much prefer to let a further portn of mine to the same lessee than to a stranger.

The terms wch the latter might offer wd not be the only Consideratn but much rather would the smooth & satisfacty workg of a former lease be an inducemt for granting a new one.

If ore shd be rais’d on my neighbours’ land it appears t me it wd have precisely ye same effect ^in competition as if raisd on some portn of my own land

I cannot perceive ye least diffce admittg an equaly in ye goodness of the ores.

I am desirs on mny accts yt ye loop line of railway shd be formd but the difficties appr t. me vy considble. I apprehd there is a rise of 100 ft fm the river to the GWR where it comes nearest to our contempld wks ming wks ^altho’ I may be mistaken only judgg by the eye – On the conty the ground is nrly level at ye or point I mentd where also the land is wholly my own wth th’ exceptn of 1 field.

And I s The road trustees wd consent I am informed to my tunnelling under the turnpike road at this point.

There are a few usual & ordy Stipulns of a lease not wch have not yet bn mentd such as that the lessees shall not assign the lease witht consent of the lessors consent &c

With reference to your letter received this morning I would recall to your recollection what I said in a former letter some months ago, viz. that although I have no present intention of so doing, yet I wish to retain a full power of selling the property at Nethermore <1> at any future time, subject only to your lease of twenty-one years and I should not be free and unfettered in this respect if I were under any engagement as to leasing the rest of the property – But of course I can say this much however that if all goes on prosperously it would be the most natural thing in theworld that I should wish to lease other portions with the Wiltshire iron trade and there should be is a demand for further iron grounds, I should much prefer to let a further portion of mine to the same lessee than to a stranger. The terms which the latter might offer would not be the only Consideration but much rather would the smooth and satisfactory working of a former lease be an inducement for granting a new one.

If ore should be raised on my neighbours’ land it appears to me it would have precisely the same effect in competition as if raised on some portion of my own land I cannot perceive the least difference admitting an equality in the goodness of the ores.

I am desirous on many accounts that the loop line of railway should be formd but the difficulties appear to me very considerable. I apprehend there is a rise of one-hundred feet from the river to the Great Western Railway where it comes nearest to our contemplated works mining works although I may be mistaken only judging by the eye – On the contrary the ground is nearly level at the origin point I mentioned where also the land is wholly my own with the exception of one field. And I s The road trustees would consent I am informed to my tunnelling under the turnpike road at this point.

There are a few usual and ordinary stipulations of a lease not which have not yet been mentioned such as that the lessees shall not assign the lease without consent of the lessors consent etc.
