My dear Sir

I am much obliged for the tracing of the land on the Railway side of the Canal – I have thought the question of the Railway over – & I think the better plan will be the one you suggested of carrying the ore in boats to the far point at the boundary of the parish – & thus taking the line direct to the G.W.R. This line I understand to be simple & the least expensive to you – but to me there will be the additional charge of the Canal – This may be met by your making a deduction from the toll of 1s/ – & make it say 8d/ which probably would meet your views as the outlay on the line would be less.

I do not think the ore can be properly worked without those fields of Mr Starkey’s – I do not think the ground on the side of the public path will be sufficient – & if a cutting has to be made the expense of that will be more than compensated for in the long run by the saving in working the ore; and I shall therefore be very glad if you would put me in the way of applying to Mr Starkey to rent those two fields for 21 years – The only thing I actually require beyond a usual lease would be power to make a cutting which of Course I would undertake to restore – I am anxious to be getting on –

Yours faithfully

G Cottrell
