Dear Sir
Your beautiful specimens of the new art of Photoglyphic Engraving have reached me quite safely this afternoon. I am quite astonished at their perfection and sharpness of detail. I have seen specimens of all the processes for effecting a similar thing, but never saw anything to equal these. The difficulty has been in the half tones but the beautiful pictures which I now have before me leave scarcely anything to be desired in that way. I do not know how you have arranged respecting the patent yet and would not think of mentioning anything about the pictures to anyone publicly without your full permission, but I should much like to Know whether you would object to my stating in my next number to the effect that you have discovered a the new process of photoengraving – that I have seen specimens of them and then give my criticisms on them. If you have the slightest objection to such a mention being made I will not do so; but if you see no harm may I trouble you to write me a line to that effect, as f if I do not receive your permission till I have the pleasure of seeing you on Wednesday it will be too late for the Friday’s “News”
Again thanking you for your Kind present I remain
very truly yours
William Crookes
