Having received a note from Mr Phelps<2> stating that he had examined the Map of your Estate at Lacock with the Lands,<3> which he finds to be now made correct you will have the goodness to excuse my applying for the balance of my bill delivered £51: 5 : 0

Notes:

1. Chippenham, Wiltshire: largest town near Lacock, 3 miles N.

2. Probably Philip Phelps, Surveyor of Taxes & Bailiff, Lacock.

3. This is possibly the map commissioned in late 1826 - see Doc. No: 01491. There is a manuscript map in a private collection derived from Lacock Abbey, titled A Survey of the Abbey with the Manor of Lacock – in the County of Wilts – the Estate of – William Henry Fox Talbot Esqr. – 1827; it is bound in marbled paper, with sheets measuring 33 x 22 cm.
