65 Harley St <1>
Tuesday April 4th
My Dear Mr F.
I was very much surprized and gratified by your affectionate letter, <2> but I hope that you find yourself altogether able to spare this money, because I assure you that I am in no want of it at the present time, having lived very economically for a year or two. Constance <3> has fortunately no expensive tastes whatever, so that a large income is less necessary to us.
She has prospered exceedingly this time, <4> to make up for the last, so that I have not had a minute’s uneasiness about her for the last fortnight. In two days she will be allowed to come down to the drawingroom – We are so near the Regent’s Park that Ela <5> walks there every day We do not allow her to cross Oxford Street. –
Lady Ilchester <6> has taken the house 18 Clifford St corner of Burlington Street, for 4 months –
Yours affly
Henry
There is an invitation come for you from the Thatched House, <7> to dine with the Navy Club next week. I think I have seen something of the same sort on your table before. The Admiral
