Rome
19 May 1823
My Dear Mr Feilding,
I hear from Gwynne <1> you have thoughts of staying several months at Naples – I beg you will let me know as soon as you can (directing Florence) what are your plans, as mine depend essentially upon them. Have you found some villa at Castellamare so beautiful that you cannot help taking it?
Maria <2> looks like a spectre, but the doctor says she is getting much better; however Gwynne says she was in pain today – she hardly seems to recognize any body. I have heard from Hammersley <3> closing Awdry’s account for last year, which it seems is only some 20 £ worse than was expected – I suppose times are now at the worst & going to mend.
Yours ever Affectionately
W.H.F. Talbot
If you spend the Summer at Naples, I think I shall make a little tour in Switzerland, & go home to England in August, & come to see you in your winter quarters in Dec. or Janry but it is a great pity you should give up the Como scheme that promised to be so pleasant.Monsieur
Monsieur Feilding
