My Dear Mother

I shall stay here till Monday or Tuesday as I see some chance of getting some business done. I daresay I shall not be so long getting to Florence when once I set out. I must stop a day or two at Frankfort.

I had a pleasant journey to Town. Between Chippenham <1> & Wootton Bassett we passed thro’ a snowstorm which was very curious to see. It was a single cloud which looked as black as night, while all the rest of the sky was serene. We went so quick that we passed through it in about six minutes & emerged into the fine weather on the opposite side, so that the cloud was about three miles in thickness.

We have beautiful weather today so I hope you are enjoying yourselves –

Your affte

Henry

Notes:

1. Chippenham, Wiltshire: largest town near Lacock, 3 miles N.
