My Dear Mother

I called on Stilwell <1> today – He told me he wrote to you yesterday –

As you did not dissent, you are held to have consented to the Government measure, which is what you intended: so all is right.

There is indeed a description of 3½ per Cent Stock, with respect to which the reverse rule holds good, but you have none of that stock –

I send you in a separate cover, the resolutions of the House of Commons on that subject – the reading of which will tend to the edification of all who study finance at Mt Edgcumbe, <2> and like to dive into its mysteries.

Your affte

Henry

Notes:

1. Of Stilwell & Company. [See Doc. No: 04971].

2. Mt Edgecumbe, near Plymouth: seat of the Earl of Mt Edgcumbe.
