I request your acceptance of a few specimens of photographic Engraving upon Steel, ^<2> by a process of my invention –

I shall be absent from Edinburgh at the time of the next meeting of the R Soc^{y <3>} and for some time afterwards, therefore I will not Trouble you to send me an order of admission, of which I regret I was not able to avail myself hitherto owing to a severe cold. ^<4>
