Mr Ez. Harmans compts to Mr Talbot and presuming upon his polite offer of franking<1> has sent three letters but begs if Mr Talbot should be full for this day he will not hesitate to date them for tomorrow

Mr Harman avails of this opportunity to acknowledge Mr Talbot’s polite and neighbourly conduct relating to the cottage occupied by Job Hale for which he feels much obliged Mr H begs to add that he hopes Mr & Mrs Talbot will not hesitate to drive through the park whenever it may suit their convenience

Notes:

1. As an MP, WHFT had franking privileges and was entitled to free postage. Members commonly gave signed covers or envelopes to friends. At the time, the recipient paid for postage (to ensure that the letter was delivered). This arrangement was withdrawn in January 1840 with the introduction of the Penny Post, which instituted uniform costs and pre-paid stamps.
