Dear Sir,
I have just received your letter with three translations – for which I thank you. I glanced over some of it. Of course I differ fm you as to many passages. Every pair of translators will do this till the points at issue are dismissed. I see you have condoned the translation of lashanau which you gave in the T.P. cylinder & adopted my view that the word should be resolved into two. I now think that I was wrong & you also – The true translation has yet to be given. I am surprised at your considering the reading of <cuneiform> as a new discovery. It is mentioned valued in my paper on the Assyrian verb, J. S. L vol III. p. 402 & I had valued it before this in my translation given to the Trustees of the British Museum in 1856 & burked by them. You seem not to recognise what the character primarily signified. clearly flies <hebrew> and in the plural <hebrew>.
Shall you be at Oxford on the 27 &c? I hope to be there with an etemological <sic> paper containing something new.
