Killyleagh Co Down

16th Novr 186<3?>.

Dear Sir,

I am obliged to you for your two translations which I received this morning. I am now deeply engaged in Egyptian chronology – preparing a paper for the next number of the Journal of Sacred Literature. When I finish this (which I trust will be in a fortnight or three weeks) I will return to Assyrian.

When do you find the notices of an Eclipse in <first?> of Esarhaddon? There might be one on the morning of 1st Jan 680 – which might be in the first year of his reign; but unless the place was mentioned, nothing could be inferred fm it.

On a hasty glance I was struck with a statement of yours that in 6ּ68 the first character is ikki is misprinted in the lithograph. Do you know that to be the case having examined the original, or heard it fm a person who has? I should rather be inclined to give a secondary value to the character actually written. I cannot think that the <expression?> would be written ikkii might it not be nukki? Surely, in 3.55 the word is subta not ruta.

Believe me Yours very truly

Edw Hincks

H. Fox Talbot Esqre
