Haymarket
April 16th 1861
Sir
I regret your not joining the Compy <1> at its formation as your experience advice and cooperation must have been beneficial – Individually I shall always be most desirous to have you with us – but you must remember I am one only of a number & if our affairs become so successful as to make it worth your while to join it the other members may not be so alive to what Photography owes you as myself
I remain Sir Your obedient Servt
J Hogarth
The Honble Fox Talbot
&c.
Notes:
1. WHFT had declined to join Hogarth, Paul Pretsch (1808–1873), Austrian photographer & inventor; founder of the Photogalvanographic Company and others in a proposed photographic-engraving company [see Doc. No: 08329] but Doc. No: 08372 shows that he still wished to keep his options open.
