My dear Sir
Many thanks for your very beautiful examples of the new process in photographic printing. I am very sorry I was not at home when your daughter called, and still more sorry that I was unable to look in at 127 <Ser?> St. till yesterday – when I found she had departed. I am just getting about & yesterday made my first attempt at seeing my friends – but I am much the worse of it today. So I must be cautious.
Are we to have the honour of conferring the Degree of L.L.D. on you on the 18th? I am sure it would be as gratifying to Lord Brougham as to the <Stirling’s?> Forbes is succeeded by Mr Guthrie Tait of Belfast – a very good appointment. Sir D. Brewster is very active and keen He has invited his old opponent Whewell down to the Installation – but I presume Whewell will not accept.
If you come & will put up with very humble accomodation <sic> in my house I shall feel the honour neatly
Believe me <yr oblg Ser?>
P Kelland
