Dear Sir
The Bearer is Mr John Batten the Country Solicitor of Lady Georgiana <Fane> & he is quite willing to act in concert with me in offering the best opposition we can to the Railway Bill – I think I could arrange that if your name is given in with his Clients the same Counsel he has retained namely Mr Cockburn should be < illeg> employed for all & I could put the matter on a footing that you should not wish the fees to Counsel or indeed any expence <sic> save those of your own Solr or Agent –
To save time Mr Batten has called to see you & you may either arrange your plans with him, or if you will give me the necessary authority I will do so –
I am dear Sir
Yours truly
Wm Chas King
