1 Lincolns Inn 22 January 1849

Dear Sir

I am happy to inform you that we have escaped here without any very serious damage tho’ the danger has been most imminent – Mr Bolton’s room was 4 times on fire & is much damaged by cutting away the wainscots & walls & by water & will be unfit for use for some time – all our Boxes & papers were removed from here early on Sunday morning & placed for safety under the Chapel in Lincolns Inn but tho’ of course in much confusion all are safe back again – as yet however we are not certain that the side wall of this House will not have to be taken down & rebuilt – This loss however will be borne by the Insurance office.

When I first came here I had a Box filled with old court Rolls and documents relating to your Estates which I had intended to send you to be kept in your muniment room – The recent affair has brought this Box to my Notice & if you are agreeable it shall be sent down –

I am Dear Sir yrs truly
Wm Chars King

W H Fox Talbot Esq
