Dear Sir,

The Amount of Security usually given by an Undersheriff on his Appointment is £5000 & for that sum I think Mr West Awdry <1> shod procure & give you responsible Bondsmen as his Sureties.

I presume the County Clerk presides in the County Court but I really don’t know when any Security is required or if any to what Amount. In this, if you take any Security it shod be governed by the probable Amount of Money that the Clerk may at any Time have in his Hands belonging to the Suitors of the Court

I had not heard of Mr Awdrys resignation on the Appointment of his Son but I feel confident You could not have selected a more proper Successor

And it is always gratifying to one to hear of any Mark of distinctions falling to You as surely the office of High Sheriff is And therefore I congratulate you upon the Nomination. I have no doubt You will discharge the duties alike satisfactory to the County Honourable to Yourself.

Believe me my dr Sir
Always yours faithfully

W. K. King
