La Société Française de photographie en organisant l’Exposition qui s’ouvrira le 1er Mai prochain dans le palais de l’Industrie aux Champs Elysées, cherche surtout à faire connaître les services multiples que peut vendre la photographie?
Son attention s’est portée principalement sur les applications aux Sciences et aux Arts (Astronomie, Géographie, Levé de plans, Missions scientifiques, Micrographie, Microscopie, Reproductions de Documents, Modèles &tc &tc)
Les ministères de l’Instruction publique de la Guerre et des travaux publics du Gouvernement Français ainsi que des autres Gouvernements nous ont promis leur concour et l’exhibition des travaux photographiques de leurs services respectifs.
Connaissant vos précieux travaux, je viens donc au nom du progrès désinteressé de cet art vous inviter à prendre part à cette Exposition toute spéciale
La Société outre les médailles ordinaires mettra à la disposition du Jury des récompenses un certain nombre de médailles en argent.
Veuillez, Monsieur, nous faire connaître le plus tôt possible l’espace qui vous serait nécessaire si comme nous l’ésperons vous prenez part à notre Exposition

Dear Mr Fox Talbot
In organizing the Exhibition which will open on the 1st of next May in the Industrial exhibition centre on the Champs Elysées, the Société Française de Photographie is seeking above all to make known the multiple services that photography can render?
Its attention has principally fallen upon the applications of photography to the Sciences and to the Arts (Astronomy, Geography, map surveys, scientific Missions, Micrography, Microscopy, Reproductions of Documents, Models &tc &tc)
The ministers of Public Education of War and of public works of the French Government as well as of other Governments have promised us their support and the exhibition of photographic works their respective services.
Knowing your invaluable works, I am writing therefore in the name of the disinterested progress of this art to invite you to take part in this very special Exhibition
Apart from the ordinary medals the Society will put at the disposition of the awarding Jury a certain number of silver medals.
Please, sir, let us know as early as possible the space which would be necessary for you if as we hope you take part in our Exhibition
