Dear Mr Talbot

I received your kind letter yesterday, and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for the kind manner in which you have acted with regard to the shooting on the Nethermore farm. The arrangement which I proposed to your son in the first instance was one which I did not hesitate about putting forward as it seemed to me to be for our mutual advantage. Now however I have to thank you for a very great favour without any corresponding concession on my part, and the kind way in which you have granted it makes it impossible for me not to accept it with the greatest pleasure –

With regard to compensation for any damage done to the farmer by game, I need hardly say that I shall consider myself bound to act as I should towards a tenant of my own – I trust however that there may be little cause for complaint as I am quite alive to the necessity of keeping down the ground game, especially in farms where the soil is poor. –

Thank you once more for the kindness you have shown & believe me dear Mr Talbot

Yours very truly

Lansdowne
