March 17 1875.
My dear Sir,
I am much obliged by your letter wh: seems conclusive.
I was aware of the bas relief representations of the B. Camel, but you have supplied an important item wh. I desired to know, viz. by what name, if any, the animal is designated in the accompanying inscription.
The doubt (if such it cd be called) rose in my mind simply with reference to, & in consequence of, the reading in the description of Samas Rimmon – "bulls wh: have two humps" – & the appended note, "i.e. Camels."
If I do not misunderstand your note, you wd not use the word "bulls" on translating that passage, and would read the original word not "parrati" but "utrati" = "udurati".
Believe me, with thanks for your kindness,
Yours very faithfully
