Monsieur,

R. Lepsius

Sir,

I hasten to thank you very much for the parcel which you were so good as to have Mr Bunsen deliver. I was most interested to read your memoir on the great antiquity of Genesis and its links with pagan traditions, and I was delighted to see the two experiments on calotype paper which you sent me. The instructions which you added for making paper seem very clear and simple to me, and I will be sure to do some experiments; the only difficulties are often to do with putting the experiment into practice It would be a great advantage if this paper, which is so easy to transport, could be used for a long journey like the one which I am going to undertake; but I fear that it will be even more difficult to make the paper on site; since you say that once it has been prepared, it can only be kept for three months at the very most.

I still hope to visit England for a second time before leaving for Egypt. If so, it would be a great pleasure to make your personal acquaintance and to take advantage of your verbal instructions on how to practise such an important discovery.

I am, Sir, Your very devoted servant
R. Lepsius
