Cavendish Square <1>
Sunday – 10th Feb.
My dear Henry
I little thought when writing so lately to you, that my next communication would contain the details of a loss, which you will feel next to ourselves most deeply – You probably know of the harrassing [sic] law business which brought my sister Charlotte <2> to London last Monday – dear Mary <3> had promised to go with her, and tho’ feeling unwell, when the time came, she travelled all the way from Penrice <4> to London, which, added to the harrassing [sic] nature of the trial which was impending, was too much for her strength – My sister Jane <5> was too poorly to leave home or she would have been here – I was present (having come up on Tuesday) and was with dear Mary & Charry on Wedy – and now Isabella <6> is here – but was not in time to see dear Mary – she died on Friday at 1 o’clock – the immediate cause was erysipelas –
Charlotte is very composed, but the Law business is not yet over – nor will be, for several days I suppose – Christina Nicholl <7> is here & is a great comfort to her Aunt Charlotte as well as several others of the Nicholls.
Hoping you are all well
I remain your affte cousin
Emma Llewelyn
