May 27.
My dear Henry
Thanks very many for the Cuttings which arrived quite safely & fresh yesterday morning – and the gardener confidently hopes they will “do well”. I fancy it is a propitious time of year for such-like! I hope you will have five minutes to spare should you be in London to come & see us – tho’ we shall be a long way from Caroline which is inimical to our chance. We go up tomorrow.

Can you tell us the name of this shrub? It is about the size of a Guilder Rose but I never remember its blowing before. “Guess” I might not have seen at home, as we are generally away in the Spring – but nobody knows what it is – It is extremely pretty – I daresay Jane knows it as she mostly knows Every thing.
