My dear Sir,
I have just got a note from the Society of Bibl. Literature telling me that a paper on an eclipse by you will be read on Tuesday. Are you going to read it yourself? If so I will be present, if possible. I do not venture out at night now unless on very particular occasions, and that will be one.
31 March. I wrote so far last night, this morning I have a note from you, and as you say nothing of your reading I think you do not intend to be present at the Meeting. – I quite agree with you as to the alliance and perhaps identity of miranu and muranu, having seen how often words with the same value change their vowels, but when I see an apparent distinction I make it a verb to mention it, saving myself by “so far as I have seen” as in this instance, p 579. If the sheet of errata “additions” be not printed, I will mention your suggestion.
Is not the passage you mention with ipsil<un?> and the immigration to Assyria the same with that at the foot of p 878 of my Dictionary, from Assurbani<pal> iv.19. “they fled and their vassals [adherents] in their hearts quailed”? the root of the verb will be pasal the Arabic <arabic> which Golius explains to torfruit, pusillanimous fruit, &c. This seems exactly the meaning “quarreled.”
Yours faithfully
