R Asiatic Society
16 october 1857
My dear Sir
I am endeavouring to get up some evening meetings for the coming season at the Society’s rooms, such as we had in 1853, but which have since fallen off. I do not know if you have ever been present at these assemblages. Members bring the ladies of their family, and after the lecture, which is more popular than those of our ordinary meetings, we adjourn to the Drawing Room for tea, Coffee, &c and a very pleasant gossip follows. But for all this we must have lecturers, and I am now writing quite unofficially, to ask if you would be inclined to favour the society with an address on any matter connected with Asia. I have three promises already and another would enable me to mention evening lectures on our annual cards. We want six altogether, but more will follow
If you will reply in the course of next, I shall be much obliged to you
I am My dear Sir Yours faithfully
Edwin Norris
