Sperando sempre che non mi abbi dimenticato nella sua benevolenza azzardo pregarla di un favore che aggiungerò a tant’altri che V.S. si è compiaciuta di compartirmi. Io vengo d’arrivare domenica d’un corto viaggio sul continente con Lord Chesterfield ed oggi un mio amico mi dice per certo che Lord <illegible> parte fra breve per l’Italia passando <illegible> per la Svizzera e che ha bisogno di un corriere. Io sono stato subbito alla sua casa ma non giunge che stasera o domani. Mi sono preso la libertà anche di scriverci due righe ma come non sa chi sia, sapendo che è di sua relazione ricordandomi di essere stato con V.S. una volta alla sua casa di campagna, una sua comendatizia potrebbe farmi un gran bene ed è l’oggetto ed il favore di cui la prego di volermi graziare. Credo inutile assicurarla che farò di tutto per condurmi in modo da farci onore, perché oramai V.S. già conosce abbastanza il mio carattere.
Voglia essere al solito buono per perdonarmi la libertà d’incomodarla e sicuro quasi che non vorrà negarmi la sua protezione, pregandola di avere la bontà di ricordarmi ossequiosamente a Milady, ho l’onore di essere

In the hope that you will not have forgotten me in your benevolence, I venture to ask of you a favour which I will add to so many others with which Your Lordship has been so good as to grace me. I have just arrived on Sunday after a short journey on the continent with Lord Chesterfield and today a friend tells me that Lord <illegible> will definitely leave soon for Italy passing <illegible> Switzerland and that he requires a courier. I went immediately to his house but he will not arrive until this evening or tomorrow. I also took the liberty of writing him a few lines but since he does not know who I am, and knowing that you are acquainted with him since I recall having once gone with Your Lordship to his country house, a recommendation from you could be of great benefit to me and it is the object of the favour with which I ask you to grace me. There is no need for me to assure you that I will do everything to conduct myself in such a manner as to honour you, because Your Lordship already knows enough of my character.
Please be so good as to forgive me for having taken the liberty of troubling you and almost certain that you will not deny me your protection, asking you to be so kind as to offer my respectful regards to Milady, I am honoured to be
