J’espère que vous avez reçu la lettre <1> que je vous ai écrite il y a environ dix jours. J’ai fait un arrangement avec quelqu’un ici <2> de lui [illegible deletion] donner privilège exclusif de prendre les portraits Calotypes à Londres, au prix de dix-mille francs par an qu’il doit me payer, autrement j’aurai le droit de donner ce privilège à d’autres personnes – à la verité cet accord n’est pas encore signé, mais je le regarde comme arrangé. Or, il me semble que pareil privilege à Paris devrait bien valoir la moitié de ce qu’il vaut à Londres, et dans ma dernière lettre je l’ai mis seulement au tiers, car 50,000 francs pour environ 13 ans ne font que entre 3 et 4000 francs par an. Voilà ce qu’il m’en semble au moment actuel – J’espère pouvoir venir passer une quinzaine de jours à Paris avec ma mère et Horatie. <3>

Dear Miss Amélina
I hope you have received the letter I wrote to you about ten days ago. I have made an arrangement with someone here to accord him the exclusive right to take Calotype portraits in London, at a cost of ten thousand francs per year which he has to pay me, otherwise I have the right to give this privilege to other people – in truth this agreement has not yet been signed, but I regard it as done. However, it seems to me that such a right in Paris must indeed be worth half what it is worth in London, and in my last letter I put it at only one third of its value, since 50,000 francs for approximately 13 years is between only 3 and 4000 francs a year. This is what I make of it all at the present time – I hope to be able to come and spend a fortnight in Paris with my mother and Horatia.
