Sir –

In reply to your Note <1> of the 13th instt I beg to inform you the two Humphry’s, Pinchin and Cole, were convicted of burning the furze <2> their sentence was one Months imprisonment to hard Labour or pay £1. I find three of them have paid the fine – Pinchin remains in prison. The chairman gave them to understand it was through your clemency that they were let off so lightly – that had you been injurious towards them they would in all probability have been transported.– and read the Clause of the Act to them.

I am Sir Your very Obedient Servant
