Dear Mr Talbot –
I had hoped to be able to come and see you again before leaving this part of the world, but I am now rather unexpectedly summoned to London on Indian business, and am obliged therefore to defer the pleasure of a further talk with you on Assyrian Matters until I return to Wiltshire about the middle of September–
In the mean time I send by the bearer Oppert’s first "Livraison," which is somewhat pretentious, but contains no doubt much valuable information, and will thus I believe prove of some interest to you–
You can keep the book until I call for it on my return from Knoyle to Chippenham in September, or until you hear from me again and in the mean time
Believe me ever yours sincerely
H. Rawlinson
