Royal Asiatic Society,
5, New Burlington Street, W.
London, 20th Novr 1863.

Dear Sir,

The Council has made a contract for five years with Trübaer & Co, of 60, Paternoster Row, to publish our Journal at a fixed price per volume of 30 sheets, or, in proportion, more or less. They choose their own printer, but the Cuneiform types will be used as hitherto, me paying for them as extras.

It is too late for the note you mention, as every thing is now printed off.

I am sure Mr Norris, who will continue to be Honorary Secretary, will always esteem your Contributions useful and interesting. Sir H. Rawlinson, unfortunately for our Journal, is so much occupied as not to be able, apparently, to contribute any of the translations from the Cuneiform or from the , of which he has frequently held out hopes. Dr Hincks, too, appears to have abandoned us. It is a very great pity, in many points of view, that these translations cannot be made and given to the public. If you could combine your labours with Mr Norris, I think you could assist one another in these dark divinings, and the result would be that perhaps Sir Henry would be forced into Activity.

Believe me, faithfully yours,
J W Redhouse

H. F Talbot, Esq.
